Lift Coffee Shop

11/16/13:

Stars: 4.4 out of 5.0
Pros: View of the Marathon, Selection, Tasty Food
Cons: Forgot Part of the Order

The Anthem Richmond Marathon is a day that both runners and spectators look forward to all year. At least I think so. That being said, this year's race was welcomed in with a cold steady rain. That didn't stop MC, NP, SW and myself from grabbing a little breakfast as we watched 1000's of people run and be healthy. MC suggested that we go to Lift Coffee Shop and post up there.

Lift (Lift Coffee Shop) is located on W. Broad, right by the start of the marathon. It's a decent sized place, deeper then it is wide. Not a ton of seating surprisingly though... It is brightly painted and very well lit. Overall, a very good looking place. It also has a very big front window. One that is outfitted with a nice big table and some nice seats. That is where we decided to post up as it gave us a great view of the race.

Lift Coffee Shop has a nice sized menu with a variety of choices. You can order coffee or booze, depending on how your morning is going... I went with hot chocolate,  but MC's choice of a mimosa was INCREDIBLY tempting. I also chose to go with a grilled & buttered blueberry muffin. Its a personal favorite and had been the topic of conversation the night before. So, I had to get one. The girls went with a couple different things. SW got a berry smoothie and a breakfast sandwich. MC secured a breakfast sandwich. And NP just went with a good solid coffee. So, we really spread out across the menu and tried a sampling of what was offered.

As we sat waiting for our food to be made, we watched the runners. They came in all shapes and sizes, wearing all sorts of outfits. The staff brought us out our meals, except SW. It seemed that they forgot all about her smoothie as she waited about 10 minutes after our food arrived before going up to check on the status of her drink. They scrambled to quickly make it for her at that point. Thankfully it was big and delicious because forgetting an order like that is no bueno. My muffin was very good. It was big and tasted fresh. It was grilled perfectly with a nice slathering of butter. I was a big fan. And my cocoa was excellent. I will admit that coffee is not my thing really. I much rather a nice GIANT cup of hot cocoa. Lift came through quite nicely. MC's sandwich looked really good. It was on a croissant, of which I have never been a fan. But she really liked it, which is all that really matters.

Lift Coffee Shop is a great little place to grab a bite in the morning or sit and watch a marathon that happens to be passing by. It's not in my section of town, so it might be a while before I get back there. But, if you happen to find yourself over near Jacksons Ward on W. Broad, stop in for a quick pick-me-up or maybe a mimosa. I'm not one to judge.
